What is a T1 declaration?
T1 is the external Union transit declaration. It allows non-Union goods — for example cargo arriving from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, the Balkans or Turkey — to travel through the EU under customs control without paying import duties and VAT at the border.
The declaration is lodged electronically in the NCTS system at the office of departure. The goods are cleared for import only at the customs office of destination, usually close to the receiver.
When you need it
- Goods enter the EU and should be cleared at the destination, not at the border
- The cargo crosses several countries before import clearance
- The receiver wants to clear the goods at a customs office near their warehouse
- Goods move between customs warehouses
What we need from you
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Details of the sender and the receiver
- Description and commodity codes of the goods
- The customs office of destination, if you know it
Guarantee and time limit
A T1 transit requires a guarantee that covers the duties and taxes on the goods while they travel. The office of departure also sets a time limit for presenting the goods at the office of destination. We arrange the guarantee and plan the route so the transit is closed on time.
